How to avoid obesity
Posted on Tuesday, December 01, 2009 :: 2 Comments :: Article Rating :: Health, Exercise

There is no doubt that obesity is one of the biggest problems that many men and women of all ages suffer from, and although everybody wants to lose weight quickly, burning fat is no easy task. We all want to eat everything we want, when we want, in the quantities that we want. At the same time, we act as if we are concerned about staying fit and healthy. Nevertheless, here are a few tips on weight loss that will help you shed some pounds with a bit of hard work and determination. Don't expect to just read these tips and tricks and expect to lose weight while you sleep, it will take a lot of effort on your part to succeed.

Without further ado, here a few methods you may want to look over when embarking on your weight loss journey.

Try to minimize the foods that contain high amounts of fats like butter, full fat cheese, nuts, sweets or foods that contain a high proportion of carbohydrates like bread, rice, pasta and potatoes and instead focus on eating foods rich in fiber vegetables and fruits. Other very healthy foods are meat low in fat, chicken without the skin, and skimmed milk instead of full fat milk. And in case you feel hungry you should eat low-calorie foods such as vegetables and fruits, instead of eating junk food like cookies and chips.

It is very important to drink a lot of water, preferably 1.5 - 2 liters a day while reducing the use of salt to a reasonable extent as an increase in the amount of salt is a bad thing as it tends to store water in the body leading to weight gain. Water can also help you detox, by flushing the toxins out of your body.

Exercise consistently during while you're on a diet. This is the best way to lose weight, as practicing a sport can earn a person a sense of confidence which helps him think more clearly and gain self confidence in everything he does. Some of the best sports/exercises are brisk walking, running, aerobics and swimming.

Avoid taking medicines/drugs/pills that help reduce your appetite, as these usually have many negative side effects and can do your more bad than good. You should also refrain from following very uncommon diets such as those that focus on drinking large amounts of vitamin-concentrated liquids and the likes. Just stick to the most popular diets and when in doubt don't be afraid to ask your doctor for recommendations and opinions.

Finally, everyone should know and understand that obesity will eventually lead to bigger and more dangerous diseases and conditions, so it is best for us to stay fit before we gain weight while we still have a chance. Also, make sure you don't work on reducing too much weight too fast, it's better for you to take things slowly and start with losing just a few pounds a month and then increasing that. There are many diets/workouts that will make you lose many pounds in a single week but these eventually backfire and the weight comes back all over again.

With respect to losing weight, did you know that calorie restriction is also good for brain health! Tis true. Try skipping just one meal a day and you've cut down some calories, lost some weight and improved your brain!

In response to the comment above me: I know nothing about the effect of calorie reduction on the brain, but I do know that skipping meals is not normally healthy or an effective way to lose weight. Eating meals, in fact, often helps one lose weight by keeping a steady metabolism. The trick, as is addressed in this post, is to eat the RIGHT foods for meals.
